Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The role of the Student Accessibility Clerk (MUSIC) is to coordinate resources that will best support and accommodate students with a blind disability and other needs to ensure that all students can succeed academically. The SAC upholds the Americans Disabilities Act (ADA) and all relevant federal regulations pertaining to accessibility, and maintains student confidentially and privacy as outlined in FERPA. This position will work with the ODS (Office of Disability Services) Coordinator, assistants, and instructors in assisting students to record and visualize music. The position involves working directly with blind students and the instructors to provide reasonable accommodations in a timely manner under the direction of the students and instructors.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, you must have completed course work in MUSI 2211, MUSI 2216, MUSI 2212, and MUSI 2217, with a B or higher. Must have written approval or a letter of recommendation from Music Department Chair. If not an ACC student, or former student, you must have taken equivalent classes or have equivalent knowledge from other educational source and written approval from Music Department Chair.
• Previous engagement with disabled students who are alternative learners. •
• Reading music and knowledge of music, both written and auditory.
• Basic knowledge of music composition.
• Have flexibility to work with student’s schedule
• Demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology (AT) for people with disabilities
• Ability to function effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, and students
• Work with a diverse population
• Must be detail oriented to ensure exact translation of information from one source to accessible format.
• Be able to follow detailed instructions during a production project without providing assistance.
• Ability to be firm during testing and work activities so that there is no tutoring, teaching, or accidental educational support.
• Be able to work with others and learn new skills based on students needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred
• Prefer work experience teaching, tutoring, or performing group work with others in content area and/or with people with disabilities, specifically blind or physically disabled.
• Experience with creating manipulatives, accessible material of visual information
• Good communication skills for verbal description of visual information (pictures, videos, other sources).
